Illegal electricity wire connections in Mdantsane East London

Illegal electricity wire connections usually called ''izinyoka'' by people living in Mdantsane in East London continues to kill many innocent people.

Many people living in shacks in the township of Mdantsane in East London are using illegal electricity wire connections which are not connected by Eskom but by non electricity graduates of Mdantsane township of which some  had dropped out of school at an early age. This illegal electricity connection is continuing to claim lives of innocent people, mainly young and very old people.

I remember in November 2016, a 64 year old year old woman died after she allegedly tripled over illegally connected electric wires. She was walking home from hospital when the incident occurred. The similar incident happened to a young boy who was playing and fell over the illegally connected wires but fortunately the boy did not die, he was rushed to Cecilia Makiwane hospital where he got help immediately.

It is so sad that even after so many people dying because of these illegal wires, the people of Mdantsane especially those living in shacks do not want to change their lifestyle.

  3. These are sad news, I think if the government could just intervene and try helping these poor souls out otherwise more people are going to be injured or worst killed

  8. This is a very serious issue that affects all South African townships. I think that it is caused by negligence in our communities. It is our responsibility to report such doings as illegal electrical connections, being a snitch is not a bad thing if you're saving lives by doing so. It is partly the government's fault, Eskom's and largely that of the illegal residents.
